I am the wife of a builder. Over the years I have stood on countless empty lots, on foundations without walls and on subfloors without roofs visualizing a finished home. In 2009, after years of working with clients building new homes, my husband asked me if I would be interested in undertaking the complete renovation of a 1950s bungalow in North West Calgary. I enthusiastically responded, "of course!" He then informed me everything had been stripped out of the house and the walls were down to the studs. It was not a small undertaking. I learned to use a jack-hammer and an air nailer on that job! I was grateful for the experience that taught me much as I honed skills as a project manager and as a designer.
There are so many rewards in doing what I do. Lasting relationships are important to me. It is a privilege to be invited into a home or work place to collaborate a vision with those who live and work in those spaces. Listening to what is treasured by my clients and drawing inspiration from their own collections and lifestyles helps develop a design that is personal. We all have a story and that story can be told in the spaces we live and work in. It is true that beauty is found in the details and what moves a good design to a great design is attention to those details. An unexpected element and a little sparkle in each room brings me joy!
"The home should be the treasure chest of living."
--Le Corbusier
My goal, no matter the size of the undertaking, is to exceed my client's expectations. Perhaps obsession but I prefer to say passion moves me each and every day!
